The Ministry of Education and the new BC Education plan is focused on incorporating Indigenous perspectives, and pedagogy into the K-12 classroom. As teachers and whole schools move towards authentic reconciliation between Indigenous and non-indigenous Canadians many teachers and schools are asking how they might do this well.
Dr Wenona Victor is Sto:lo from the Skowkale First Nations community located in Chilliwack B.C. She obtained her PhD degree in 2013 from Simon Fraser University, her dissertation is titled “XeXa:ls and the Power of Transformation: The Sto:lo, Good Governance and Self-Determination.” Wenona is currently UFV’s first Indigenous Studies Faculty member and teaches Indigenous content courses for Criminology, History, the Teachers Education Program and Social Work as well as Indigenous Peoples Knowledge courses. Wenona’s research interests are in processes of De-colonization and Indigenous Governance and Resurgence.
